Student Achievements

 

Under Liam’s guidance and leadership many TZ athletes have been able to attain their goals and beyond.  He has done so much for the students at Tappan Zee and his outreach spans the entire State of New York.  Through local, regional, and state competitions, Liam has been the fulcrum on which the entire Tappan Zee Athletic Department and all its’ teams and student athletes balance.  Here are some examples of the results of his leadership, encouragement, and student triumphs. 2015-16 To Date

TZHS Boys Basketball – League Champs, Section 1 Class A runner-up
TZHS’s Robert McWilliams named Journal-News Boys Basketball Player of the Year
TZHS’s Helen Joyner (Girls Track) set the County record for weight throw
TZHS’s 5 Journal-News Scholar-Athletes:

2014-15

• TZs Liam Burke Named First 2014-15 Journal News Scholar Athlete of the Week
• TZ has 6 Journal News Scholar Athlete of the week thru the fall and winter seasons.
• State Champion – Luke Gavigan (2^nd consecutive year) 1600M Spring Track
• Four TZHS Students Qualify for 2015 National Rowing Championships
• Section Champions: Boys Cross Country (ranked #3 in NYS)  Girls Gymnastics (ranked #4 in NYS)
• League Champions: Boys Cross Country,  Boys & Girls Bowling, Boys & Girls Lacrosse
• 1,000 point scorer: Luke McLaughlin (Boys Basketball)
• Section Semi Finals:  Boys Basketball – 5^th time in last 6 years

2007-08

• Wrestling Coach Rich Blauvelt (TZ ’64) enters the Rockland County Coaches Association Century Club with his 100th coaching victory.
• Girls Basketball Coach Reid Hoffer is elected to the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame.
• Gymnastics wins third straight Division title followed by second straight Section One crown.
• Eight of the nine Fall varsity SOCSD teams qualified as NYS Scholar Teams
• Girls JV Basketball team finishes undefeated season (20-0) by winning JV County Title
• Basketball player Ryan Sheridan becomes only the 2nd TZ boy (7th player overall) to score 1,000 points
• At the Nike Outdoor National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, TZHS Senior Emma Rose Miller-Bedell earned ALL-AMERICAN honors by finishing fourth in the nation in the 2000 meter steeplechase
